Good debut.

How soon can we crush his youthful spirit?

An hour with Peter Roebuck and a cane ought to do it.

It was pretty inspired slogging against some pretty shite bowling targetting one of the shortest boundaries in test cricket on a flat pitch.

Not to take anything away from him but to be the new Chris Cairns he'll have to get rid of the habit of stepping away to leg against the fast men...

I seem to remember Cairns' courage being questioned by some Aussie fast bowlers when he started as a 19 year old, as he tended to back away when facing the quick men.

These Kiwi's have a habit of going from useful tailenders to genuine all rounders in the space of a year or so. Nathan Astle started his career as a bowler, ffs, and Mark Richardson started off as a spin bowler who batted at number 11. Southee has some natural ability to work with.

Shame, with Bond in there NZ would have had a decent-ish attack, without the constant injuries and the NZ board screwing with his career.

What's happened to James Franklin? He wasn't the worst bowler going around.

He's got a bad knee injury. Ruled out of the tour to England as well.

He'd go well in that attack, I reckon. Underrated bowler.
