Tied Test Aust. vs West Indies
Without a doubt the most exciting and dramatic Test I have seen in 60 years of watching and playing Cricket.Even the players of both sides at the end had no idea of the result. The crowd did not start to leave The Gabba until at least an hour after play and that was only when both teams had come out on the balcony to acknowledge them.
It had everything..181 to Norm O'Neill, some fantastic runouts, intimidatory bowling at its very best.
The BIG winner from this tied game was Cricket itself because of the manner and spirit the game was played mainly due tto the Captaincy of Messrs Benaud and Worrell.

Macca - you were there at the end? Sheeet! It must have been mayhem - did you know what was going on, ball by ball in that last over?

A big NO on that one...Manual Scoreboard had a tough time keeping us all informed. We, as the public, just KNEW that something special was going on and that we were part of it.electric atmosphere and Solomon runout hectic

My father was at the Gabba on that last day. He normally went to the first day of Gabba tests with a friend of his but they were unable to make it that year, so decided to go on the final day instead. Best decision ever! And Davo was his favourite player so his outstanding contribution made it even better.

Good story Wally - Davo, man of the match in the match of the century!

Re: Tied Test Aust. vs West Indies
So did I.
It was easily the finest match and the greatest finish of all the Tests I have followed, and quite possibly all those which went before.
Sobers first innings century must have been one of the finest ever played in Australia. O'Neill lost quite a bit by comparison but would have shone in any normal game.
If it hadn't been immortalised as The Tied Test it would have been remembered primarily as Davidson's match.
Eleven wickets and innings of 44 and a magnificent 80, when Benaud ran him out. Just as well, though, otherwise Australia must have won.
