1987, 200th anniversary of the MCC

Post by filosofee on Fri 07 Sep 2007, 23:20

I was at Lord's for this anniversary, celebrated with a Test match between MCC and Rest of the World.

Malcolm Marshall played, as did Allan Border. Remember batting partnership between Sunil Gavaskar and Imran Khan, trying to find scorecard on 'cricket archive'. Match was set for fantastic finish but it rained all day on the 5th, Tuesday in London.

Edit: spelling error

Remember watching all of it.

Gooch was having his worst ever season and was dropped from the England side having not toured Oz the previous winter yet was selected in this game and made 150+ if I recall

Before being run out of his own bowling famously by Roger Harper

That's like the Monty Python "Idiot Olympics" sketch where Oliver somehow runs himself over with his own car.

Ok badly worded

A Gooch straight drive to back to Harper was fielded by the bowler and thrown back at the stumps to run Gooch out who had taken 3 paces down the wicket...

No worries, JKL, I knew what you meant . . . but it did sound like something only the English could manage . . . Laughing

'Slam the car door to wake the neighbour?'

Ah, those early Python skits were the best.

Grow up, Taips. You're a supposed family man, with morals.

Oh wait.
