Bairstow is good for a cameo 30 but not much else at this stage.

Perhaps one day. One f*cking day, they will pay some sort of attention to List A records.

Says who?
Has he ever been tried ??
Anyway, a cameo 30 odd might just outshine a steady-eddie 20 from the Belf !
No ??

It would be an absolute and total travesty if IR Bell is even near the squad, unless they've got a tight budget and don't want to pay for a flight for another drinks carrier.

Yes, he was tried, and looked as clueless as the other English batsmen in India.

Meanwhile, Jos Buttler is smashing the Sri Lankan bowlers everywhere in their conditions. He simply must bat in the top 5 in England's next ODI.

Nobody knows when it's announced then? I guess they'll nick all the Lions best players to give themselves a chance of beating them.

Nurdler sweepstake then - how many blockers will England choose for their top six?

I reckon two. Trott and Cook.

Only up to ten unless he takes his shoes off, then he can reach twenty.

Here's a big call- They wont pick Ian Bell. Their patience with him in ODIs has finally run out. And now they can't even point to his test form as evidence that he has the potential to be a good ODI player.

I thought he needed help counting the number of rupees from his last IPL contract, turns out I was wrong!

Re: ODI Squad?

As I thought, Ian Bell has been dropped. Unlucky......

ODI squad (notable names in bold)-

Alastair Cook (capt), James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter (wk), Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann, Jonathan Trott

T20 squad-

Stuart Broad (capt), James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Craig Kieswetter (wk), Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann

Agree with Buttler and Briggs's selections, but why Jade Dernbach?? The man has bowled terribly since the end of the English Summer. It's either (now) predictable slower balls, or waist high full tosses, with any length ball skidding onto the bat nicely.

I also see no Hales in the ODI squad, which I guess means they're going to stick with Kieswetter up the top of the order, despite him batting at number 5 for the Lions in Sri Lanka, and having some success. Strange. Unless they're thinking of opening with Pietersen.....

I'd read that KP was going to open, which makes sense of the Lions batting Kieswetter at 5. So maybe a top six of

Cook
KP
Trott
Morgan
Kieswetter
Buttler

Looks a goodish top six on paper. There's still the potential for us to be stuck with Cook and Trott batting together for a long period of time, though. The problem is, neither of them are capable of going up a gear when needed. Trott should be a floater. If we lose Cook first, then send in Trott, but if we lose KP, send in Morgan or Buttler.
