Australia v India, 1st Tri-series ODI, Melbourne, 5 February, 2012

Post by Henry on Sat 04 Feb 2012, 13:21

Ha, no thread for this and it starts in 3 hours?

Brett Lee is out of the tournament with a broken foot. That must surely be it for his international career.

Meh, I was about to start a thread but you beat me to it, Trev. But it sums up IRDGAF attitude many of us have towards non-Test encounters. I'll give it a watch but will probably forum during the tedious middle overs.

I thought the reason the tri series in Australia was scrapped in 2008 was because it had become a tired, stale format? What's changed since then?

Any ODIs outside of the World Cup aren't worth it.

Yeah, I thought the same thing re: tri-series. Oh well, let's see what the crowds look like. Wouldn't be surprised to see some meagre ones. Although SRT's 100th 100 quest may keep the Bannies coming through the gate.

And we have all long agreed that the only JAMODI tournament worthy of close following is the WC. Cool

What's changed since 2008? Nothing. The obscene amount of TV money for any match involving India means that a tri-series guaranteeing eight matches still brings in megabucks for CA.

Meh, Cricinfo said a "broken foot", so that's what I was going with.

Either way, he's out for two months.

I've always suspected the Channel Nine speed guns are 'amped up' to cater for some sort of Shaun Tait/Brett Lee hype.

Vinay Kumar was just clocked at 143 kph.

Oi, MB, are you watching? Did you see the dead ball ruling? Warner played it to mid-off, who feigned to throw at the non-striker's end, then lobbed it to mid-on, who wasn't watching. He missed it, Warner looked up from marking his guard and saw that the ball was running away into the outfield. They took 2 but the umpires ruled dead ball.

Taylor thought it was right, Greig and Lawry didn't.

Thoughts?

Shocked
The guy barely bowls 130 and now the speed gun shows him bowling consistently at 140.

I thought that the ruling was correct. Everyone assumed the ball was dead. Warner was scratching out his guard, and Raina was lobbing the ball to a teammate, not having a shy at the stumps.

They read the rules out on air, and Greig still thought they got it wrong. Oh well, moving on.
