One verdict on Lara, Sachin Punter as best of modern greats

Chappelli chooses Lara. Interesting there's no mention of Kallis despite him being statistically close to Tendulkar.

Chappelli has always been biased against South African cricketers. It's no wonder you quote him so often Red.

It's because he went over there as the putative world's best batsman and returned with no runs to his name.

TG Lawry doesn't write articles. He's just as bitter and twisted.

Re: One verdict on Lara, Sachin Punter as best of modern greats
I think you'll find it was Lawry that called Chappell 'the best batsman in the world' before the 70 SA tour and the world was already having a bit of a larf even between the Lawry comment and the start of the series.
In Jan-Feb 1970 Chappell was no 4 at absolute best - behind Sobers, Pollock and Lawry himself. Walters would also have been hot on his hammer, as well as Edrich, Barlow, Kanhai and they're just the names I came up with in the two minutes it took me to type this.
Lawry made a sitting duck of Chappell and a prize goose of himself.

Chappelli just has a hard time understanding why every team in the World doesn't play the 'Australian way.'

Can't even elicit a name out of Red as to her vintage bintage, it's like she's got copyright on them.

Who was it on here that said (without any evidence as far as I can remember) that many people considered Ian Chappell to be a better batsman that Greg? Was it Red?

he would have been a bit of a distance behind Barry Richards at the end of that series as well.
Kenny Barrington was also going strong then, and Boycott.

Probably Bucky or Red. I battle to tell them apart.

Yeah, sounds like the BCD. Apparently....
The only way Ian Chappell is a better batsman than Greg is if we mean Greg Ritchie or Greg Blewett.
