Vinoo Mankad was 8 1/2 weeks short of his 42nd birthday and the oldest Indian player so far when he played his last Test in 1959. That record may come under threat from SRT if he doesn't get his double ton soon.

SRT needs to be playing in a Test on or after 24 February 2015 in order to break Mankad's record.

That's just the Indian Test record. To beat Wilfred Rhodes' overall Test record he will have to be playing in a Test on or after 7 October 2025.

The BCCI will still be putting him out there on a zimmerframe if he still doesn't have it by then.

Jack Hobbs gave a press conference in 1925 to apologise for failing to reach W.G.Grace's record of 126 fc 100s but the chase of that particular record only lasted for about 3 weeks. When eventually he did reach Grace's total he equalled and passed it in the same match against a county he had never even scored a century against before.

In 1934 Hobbs postponed his retirement at the age of 51 in a bid to achieve the landmark of 200 fc 100s "to please my friends", as he put it. However, exhausted, he gave up the chase at 197 (although some revised records, including Cricinfo, put his career total at 199 which, had he known it at the time, might have just spurred him on a little longer) although this included a remarkable innings at Old Trafford in Duckworth's Benefit Match in which he took a century off that season's county champions who had not hitherto conceded a century.

When, many years later, John Arlott told him that many observers considered his last century to have been his finest one Hobbs replied, typically self-deprecatingly:
