Starc 12th man for the Barrel State test

Post by bodyline on Sun 22 Jan 2012, 17:01

ADELAIDE: Paceman Mitchell Starc has been left out of Australia's team for the fourth cricket Test against India starting on Tuesday in Adelaide.

Starc will be 12th man, his spot in the side taken by offspinner Nathan Lyon as Australia chase a 4-0 series sweep against the Indians.

He's expected to be released to play for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash final against the Scorchers on Saturday in Perth.

Advertisement: Story continues below "We think that is the best XI to give us every chance to win this Test match," Australian captain Michael Clarke told reporters in Adelaide today.

"I think the experience of the other three quicks will play a big part in these conditions.

"The wicket looks really good and I think reverse swing is going to play a huge part in this Test match."

The Indians have yet to announce their team but will be without captain MS Dhoni, suspended for one Test match because of his side's slow over rates.

Opening batsman Virender Sehwag is expected to captain India in the Adelaide Test, which will start in forecast temperatures of around 36 degrees.

Australia: Michael Clarke (capt), Ed Cowan, David Warner, Shaun Marsh, Ricky Ponting, Mike Hussey, Brad Haddin, Peter Siddle, Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc (12th man).

Totally predictable. You can't go to Adelaide without a spinner so Starc misses out, mind you, its about time Lyon started to produce. He's been carried so far in this series.

Yeah, that's the spirit BD, you're just like Hilditch... a couple of bad Tests so it's time to flick the spinner...

Bear in mind that going into the Boxing Day Test, Lyon was Australia's LEADING WICKET TAKER IN TEST CRICKET FOR 2011.

And it's not like he had anything like spin-friendly deck to bowl on in Melbourne of Sydney. The quicks did a pretty decent job.

You're only as good as your last test & so far in this series Lyon has been as woeful as our spinners from last year.

Given the defences you've put up for Ponting & Hilf, that's hysterical.

Hard to tell as one is a bowler & the other bats.

It's OK, if Warner doesn't get runs in the second innings of this match, I'm sure BD will be calling for him to be dropped for the next test.

Erm....i hav'nt actually suggested anyone be dropped. If you blokes can stop trying to be smartarses & read the comment, all i said was that Lyon needs to start performing.

a bit unfair BD....aside from the 2nd Bannie dig in Sydney he has not had much of a bowl this summer...as the quicks have taken the quick wickets
