It's not getting the baby in, but getting it out that is worthy of congratulations... The equivalent of taking in a banana and excreting a pineapple. As for its actions after birth, "Good luck" may be more in order than "Congratulations".

I think also the congratulations on a baby is a convention of most societies.

It's a way of trying to be life-affirming.

The equivalent of taking in a banana and excreting a pineapple.

Thing is, he's as likely to receive this congratulations as Megan Fox is likely to receive my plea for some of her pie... so it's a little bit of a bum note, in terms of forumming. I've no problems with it, per se, I just think it's strange to start 8 years on from a forum career with a multitude of sprogs born inbetwixt, like.

Well, on that basis, we might as well stop all the "Congrats to [Team X]" and "[Y], you're a tosser" threads.

It's all about the expression, not the communication. Because, as Dellage says in the subtitle of this forum ......

Dunno what's so weird. People have posted here about someone having a night out on the town, it being Friday, having a snack, feeling bored with nothing to do, a new month arriving - all of which, I should think, happens more often and is usually less newsworthy than a particular cricketer and his wife having a baby.
