Re: Wide Wally's BBL 2011/12 thread
OK, here's what happeed at my place. The Lady Empress and I came home after a meal and a few beers at a local establishment. I flicked on the BBL for a look.
After spending a couple of minutes trying to work out how a team in aqua coloured uniforms could expect to be called 'The Heat' and taken seriously, we gave it a few minutes. Giggled at the mass of empty seats. And tried to get into the match.
I went for a piss, and came back to find TLE channel surfing, before settling on old episodes of 'How I Met Your Mother'. As she is one of the 'casual fans' of the game that t20 is supposedly designed to capture, I can say CA has well and truly missed the mark. She said it was boring...

Re: Wide Wally's BBL 2011/12 thread
The Perth Scorchers have named a 12-man team for their historic debut match in the KFC T20 Big Bash League against the Hobart Hurricanes at The Furnace on Sunday.
Marcus North has shrugged off the back complaint that has sidelined him since a Bupa Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales last month and will lead a vastly experienced side into battle.
He is expected to partner Herschelle Gibbs at the top of the order, with the South African recruit ready to explode and give the Scorchers a fast start to their innings.
Local hero Mike Hussey has been named to play his first domestic T20 match for Perth and is a massive inclusion, joining favourite WA son Simon Katich and overseas import Paul Collingwood in a potent middle-order.
Young guns Tom Beaton and Mitchell Marsh along with wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi will keep the scoreboard ticking over, while Test representative Michael Beer and veteran Brad Hogg form a quality spin bowling duo. Experienced, proven T20 campaigners Nathan Rimmington and Ben Edmondson will spearhead the Scorchers’ pace attack.
Scorchers Head Coach Lachlan Stevens said: “It is really exciting to see a team with such a great deal of experience working together to bring success to the Perth Scorchers.
“If we can use that experience to our advantage in the field and with the ball, then I think the runs will look after themselves.”
Tickets are available for Sunday’s match through Ticketmaster on 1300 136 122 or ticketmaster.com.au. Play commences at 6pm, with the Western Fury taking on ACT Meteors in a Women’s T20 curtain-raiser at 2pm.

Re: Wide Wally's BBL 2011/12 thread
The bloke that replaced Mitch J has been replaced in the Scorchers squad
and Pomers isn't right yet
The KFC T20 Big Bash League Technical Committee has approved a request from the Perth Scorchers to make two changes to their squad of 18.
Fast bowler Joe Mennie will miss the entire KFC T20 Big Bash League with a groin and hip injury, while batsman Luke Pomersbach has been deemed unfit to play representative cricket due to a medical condition. Promising New South Wales left-arm quick Josh Lalor and aggressive Western Australian batsman Craig Simmons have been named as their replacements.
Lalor was rewarded for consistent performances in Sydney Grade Cricket and for the NSW Futures League side when he was selected to make his interstate debut for the Blues last month, playing two Bupa Sheffield Shield and RYOBI One-Day Cup matches, and taking 5-97 against reigning Shield champions Tasmania in Canberra. Known for his ability to generate movement with the ball, he rates Pakistan legend Wasim Akram as one of his heroes and is a welcome addition to the Scorchers line-up.
Simmons has played five domestic T20 matches for New South Wales and Western Australia, steering the Warriors to victory in a match against Tasmania at the WACA Ground in January 2009 with a vital unbeaten 31. He has been in excellent form for Rockingham-Mandurah in recent seasons in the WACA’s KMPG Statewide T20 Cup competition, and returned to interstate ranks in last week’s Bupa Sheffield Shield match between the Warriors and South Australia, scoring a half century for the home side.
Perth Scorchers Head Coach Lachlan Stevens said: “We were looking for another left-arm option with the ball and Josh impressed our guys in the recent Shield and one-day games he played for New South Wales against the Warriors, doing a bit with the ball, changing his pace, and showing that he was highly-skilled, so we are excited to have him on board with the Scorchers.
“Craig played some great cricket in the recent Futures League T20 tournament for WA, leading a young side very well as a batter. He also did an outstanding job when he was called in at short notice for the Shield game last week. On his day he can hit a really long ball, and we wanted to shore up our batting in case we lose guys to injury or national duty. We see him as a quality inclusion to the squad.”
The Perth Scorchers commence their KFC T20 Big Bash League campaign against the Hobart Hurricanes at The Furnace this Sunday, with tickets available through Ticketmaster on 1300 136 122 or ticketmaster.com.au.
