Tapping the phones of missing girls and their folks is just about as low as you can go as a journo, no?

And the families of those killed in 7/7 and relatives of soldiers killed in combat. Oh yes, upstanding members of the community are these boyos.

Of course, it might just extend to other publications - it's just that News International seem to be in the frame at the moment.

What with paying dodgy game fixers £150,000 and countless law suits, NotW must have a massive turnover to fund that sort of palaver.

Tabloid journalism is despicable in general - The News of the Screws is the worst culprit, but by no means the only one. UI really hope this story runs and runs and the protests succeed though - that the obnoxious Rebekah Brooks is fired and that Murdoch is hit in the pocket. Its not just them, but we could really do with people taking a stand and saying we're not going to take this any more:

- Newspapers deliberately creating false stories and inciting racial tensions
- The way the whole justice system is bypassed with ridiculous witch hunts against people accused of crimes (but not proven guilty)
- The soundbite culture where every tiny throwaway comment is manipulated and perverted, turning our politicians (and sportsmen for that matter) into hidden people, wary to ever speak their mind and let their character emerge
- The monopoly Murdoch has over so many newspapers and TV Stations
- And ultimately, the grotesque power these media moguls wield, the way they dictate government policy because of their undeserved influence - turning our politicians into schizoprehenic nincompoops desperately chasing headlines and good publicity rather than following their better judgement and making the correct and rational decision.

Its not all the Newsof the Screws, or just Murdoch, but I would love it if people took a stand. If everyone could boycott their products for a few weeks (and all those who advertise in them), show that they do not represent the people and these sick acts are not done in our name or our best interest - well, it would be great. But I won't hold my breath.

Interesting that the story is on the front of The Age today but buried on page 23 in Murdoch's little tabloid.
