And...they're back. Radiohead have just announced their eighth full-length record, The King of Limbs. Billed as the world's first "Newspaper Album," an extravagantly packaged version of the record will be issued on May 9; however, the music itself will effectively be issued on Saturday, February 19 when digital downloads become available to those who made pre-orders.

So Radiohead have set aside the "pay what you want" patronage model that dominated the conversation surrounding the In Rainbows release, yet have retained that album's more important business aspects: Packaging their music as a high-end collectable and controlling its leak, which has the effect of creating what these days is a rare, worldwide, collective listening experience. Once again, we all know exactly when we're first able to hear a new Radiohead record and therefore will largely all experience it together, something almost completely lost in today's pop music landscape. This in effect is also what Kanye West did so successfully with his G.O.O.D. Friday project.

Full information is quoted below, and pre-orders are currently being accepted at Thekingoflimbs.com. At present there is no track information.

Aye, saw that this morning, ridiculously excited now. I remember Thom Yorke a couple of years ago saying that Radiohead were going to stop doing full length albums so this really is fecking awesome.

Aye, how many more songs can they sound like they're sitting on a jagged dildo whilst punching a cat in the stomach and letting a four year old play with the mixing levels and effects? Maudlin qunts.

I tried Radiohead when Invader Zim first spoke about them on here....IIRC couple years ago.

I've been struggling to describe their songs ever since. Thanks, I'll go with what you said.

I never really was into Radiohead until a friend of mine who is, and I'm sure he'd agree with me, a squealing little radiohead fan boy, insisted we sit down and listen till I got it, with the help of our good friend Mary.

I was sceptical but had nothing better to do with my evening, and ever so slowly I did begin to get it.

I would count myself a fan now and am as such pretty exicted with this news, but I do still agree with Danny on their first couple of albums - almost as miserable as Leonard Cohen. I would urge everyone give everything they made after they stoped whinging a go, though, even if you don't get it at first.

I've always thought the "miserable bastard" tag was most unfair, they have a few "wrist slitting" songs as it were, but they've made some absolutely classic albums. The likes of Kid A and Amnesiac are a bit hard to listen to if you don't particularly like their more experimental side (though Kid A is my personal favourite) but their consistency in putting out brilliant albums over the last 20 odd years is almost unparalled, I'd challenge anyone to listen to their last album (In Rainbows) and not be impressed.

rabble rabbble rabble.

Plenty of decent bands have been tagged "miserablist" at some point or other. Not every song can be Barbie Girl.

That said, Radiohead leave me pretty cold. I like their musical sensibilities and the way a lot of their songs are structured (Let Down on OK Computer, for example, ticks all the boxes). But I just can't be arsed to listen to it.

Right, for all you quntrags who want to give them a chance (I'm sure youtube can accomodate you as much as it sickens me to say (sound quality is shittard)), for a recent slowy try Nude, for a faster jobby try Jigsaws falling into place, for their best song off the last album try Reckoner.

For a bit more old school shiaz, you funky jazz assholes might wanna try the National anthem from Kid A, if you want a brit pop ballad go for Fake Plastic Trees, britpop fun go for Just or The Bends or Let Down, if you want some experimental WTF WTF WTF WTF then click on Sit Down Stand Up, if you want some depress into mwahahhahahahah YES YES YES go for 2+2=5 HAHA, if you want some truly chilled get the fark out of this bizniz go for How to Disappear completely,

And if you aren't a complete f**king knobhead, you will listen to Paranoid Android and you will be impressed. If you aren't then don't ever even hint at talking to me again, you qunt.

And if you want something with a bit more warmth to finish off with then stick on Karma Police.

And if you don't like any of this, put on Exit Music and duly slit your wrists.

Street Spirit was the only decent thing they've done to be honest. The rest of their music is for pretencious wanqers to nod their head to and agree how this is the greatest sh!t since time began.
