Good to see an Englishman infiltrating the ranks of Aussie cricket and ruffling a few feathers.

Godleman is a meek little boy, though. Swart must have nicked his Game Boy or something.

Swart to Join Dutch World Cup Squad

15/02/2011

Retravision Warriors batsman Michael Swart will depart for India later this week after being chosen as a replacement player in the Netherlands' ICC World Cup squad.

Swart qualifies for the Dutch squad through his father's heritage and has been called in as a replacement for the Netherlands' injured skipper Peter Borren. His inclusion is subject to final approval from the ICC Technical Committee.

Swart is due to face a tribunal tomorrow night to answer a Level Four Code of Conduct offence arising from Joondalup's recent Retravision Shield match against Bayswater-Morley. His participation in the ICC World Cup will not be affected by the outcome of that hearing.

Swart says he is looking forward to playing in the world's biggest cricket tournament.

“It is going to be a fantastic opportunity for me to play against quality international teams and the game's leading players at some of the most famous grounds in world cricket,” Swart said.

“I am proud of my Dutch ancestry and will be doing all that I can to have a successful World Cup, both personally and with the Netherlands. Hopefully the experiences that I learn over there will stand me in great stead going forward in WA cricket.”

WACA Chief Executive Officer Graeme Wood says it is pleasing to see another WA cricketer get a chance to show their wares on the international stage.

“Playing against the likes of India on their home turf, South Africa, England and the West Indies will only be of immense benefit to Michael and we are very supportive of him taking up this opportunity,” Wood said.

“Michael was not in the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield line-up that defeated South Australia last weekend, and with the likes of Shaun Marsh and Mike Hussey becoming available in the next few weeks, there would be fierce competition for spots in the Warriors' team. The chance to play in a World Cup is definitely not one to be passed up.”

Retravision Warriors Head Coach Mickey Arthur says he would never hold a player back from taking part in such a prestigious tournament such as an ICC World Cup.

“I am happy for Michael to have this opportunity and I really hope he has a very successful World Cup,” Arthur said.

“He will learn many valuable lessons from the experience and I firmly believe he will come back here as a more rounded cricketer.”

The Netherlands' ICC World Cup campaign begins against England in Nagpur next Tuesday 22 February. They will also meet West Indies, South Africa, India, Bangladesh and Ireland in their group stage matches.

I fired Azeem Rafiq before I got Newton ...he went back to England before he batted the second time I umpired him using the dying grandad excuse

Cosgrove & Wright were both found guilty of level 1 offences in the Shield game at Bellerive.
Cossie for showing dissent after wrongly being given out in the first innings & Wright for bad language.
Cossie was fined 25% of his match fee & Wright got off with a caution.

it's a joke. get suspended in grade cricket, and you can still be selected at a higher level.

Micky Swart’s bid to play for the Netherlands at the World Cup appears over before it started with the team’s injured captain playing in the final warm-up match and the senior Dutch selector identifying other potential replacements.

But the 28-year-old batsman will not be eligible to play for the Warriors for the rest of the season after being suspended for three matches for his club Joondalup after being found guilty of the level four offence of assaulting club opponent Billy Godleman.

The WACA tribunal last night found that Swart had assaulted Godleman by raising his arm as the Bayswater-Morley batsman charged into him during a heated match last week.

Godleman was also reported but the matter will be heard later after he returned to his county team, Essex this week.

Swart, who is likely to appeal against the finding, said he was too disappointed to comment last night.

The suspension compounded Swart’s traumatic day during which the Netherlands appear to have withdrawn their invitation to play at the World Cup.

The Warriors batsman was asked by Dutch coach Peter Drinnen on Monday to travel to India to replace injured skipper Peter Borren who was suffering a side injury.

But Swart’s attempt to play international cricket may have ended after the New Zealand-raised Borren batted against Kenya on Tuesday night to indicate that he is significantly fitter than first thought.

Communications between the Dutch coach and selectors appears to have broken down with the panel chairman Darrin Murray saying that Swart was not being considered as a potential replacement.

“It is the view of the selectors that should it be necessary to fly in a replacement, he would be chosen from the three non-travelling reserves,” Murray said yesterday.

That would leave Swart in the embarrassing predicament of being abandoned only a day after he believed he was on the verge of converting a faltering State career into one on the international stage.

The Netherlands start their World Cup campaign against England at Nagpur on Tuesday.

Swart had hoped to fly to India last night but it is understood that his departure may have been delayed while he waited for a visa.

The Netherlands had not sought permission from the International Cricket Council technical committee to replace Borren.

Swart, 28, has a Dutch passport and is eligible to play for the Netherlands because his father was born there.

He knocked back an offer to play for the Netherlands at the Twenty20 World Cup last year to focus on his fledgling Warriors career.

But his State opportunities are likely to be limited with injured internationals Mike Hussey and Shaun Marsh due to return soon while the Warriors are committed to picking young players for the rest of the season.

“I’m prepared to risk my status at the moment because the WACA has been going with the younger guys and seeing where they are at in the past few games,” Swart said.

From what I have heard about Godleman from other umpires and teams is that his first name might be changed to "Thatqunt".

Swart may have used that as a defence
