Speaking of funny shaped body parts

Post by skully on Wed Jan 19, 2011 5:06 am

As Bas was about Swanny's knee, what was going on with Andy Flower's right eye during the Ashes? Did he have a cancer removed, get belted in a pub fight, cut himself shaving his eyebrows? What?

Melanoma, apparently discovered in the nick of time as a result of the fitness coach's casual observation that a small mole by his eye looked a bit dodge.

Sounds like a lucky escape.

Melanoma is a qunt of a thing, it only needs to go to a depth of 1mm and a single cell get carried away in your bloodtream and re-establish in a vital organ and you're rooted.

Happens a lot. Hope Flower's was caught in time.

Cancer is a qunt. Thankfully (or not so thankfully really) all it has taken from my life thus far is a cat. Hope it won't take anymore, though statistics are against me.

Good news for Andy, and well done to the fitness coach.

About the only thing that scares the bejesus out of me apart from prostrate cancer.

Yeah, after many years of cricket in the Satdy arvo sun, I get all the little moles and marks checked out annually. I've had a few marks frozen off.

Had all my moles checked over for the first time ever, during the summer. Dermatologist said everything was hunky-dory, but I thought he was a bit casual - he'd better be f*cking right as he charged a shedload for the honour.

My ghost will haunt him forever, demanding a refund, if he cocked it up...

I'll certainly write him a strongly-worded letter, from beyond the grave.

I wonder how peterg is getting on. IIRC he was in the midst of a major skin cancer scare around the time I joined C4 ... that must be 7 years ago now.

Hopefully it's good news for Andy Flower - early detection is the way to go, as melanoma is virtually never curable once it has spread. However, there was an encouraging major research advance in anti-melanoma biological agents announced recently ... the article made the popular press here.

A good mate had large tracts of his back cut out after being diagnosed with melanoma about 10 years ago. After he'd healed he started to feel a bit off and went to the doctor to investigate (he was given the all clear at his previous visit). The doc did the requisite tests and basically said "Oh sorry man, it appears we didn't get it all and it appears to have got away." He asked how long and was shocked when the doc said "one month". He didn't last the week. Shocked
