People fleeing Brisbane CBD

Post by Henry on Mon Jan 10, 2011 4:01 pm

The banks of the Brisbane River, which runs right through the middle of Brisbane, are about to break. All public transport stopped. People fleeing the City. Traffic jams everywhere.

Crazy times.

Aye. Pretty freaking scary.

Is there a T20 or ODI in Brissy in the next few days?

Not until January 30. I think it's being turned into a kind of floods appeal game.

flood in Brisbane not expected to peak until tomorrow...sounds like there is real pressure on the Wivenhoe Dam - built after the 74 flood to flood proof Brisbane...Dam is already at capacity and water on the range that affetected Toowoomba is heading its way...Prem Bligh says they have to contiue to release water from the dam into the Brisbane River...apparently on Friday week there is a forecast massive king tide that will go up the river...not good

............... and then of course we have our idiot premier contradicting our some idea lord mayor on the very minor issue of expected flood levels.

Less then '74 levels I'm OK - 100 mm higher, I've got a problem.

We actually had a once in a lifetime event in the city today. The underground parking stations just raised their boom gates to allow people out. No charge. I'll never see it again.

Start sandbagging Mick. I volunteered to do a couple of days when I was stuck in that bloody town. Feedback was that they work a treat if deployed properly. Of course nothing will stop the braind dead sight seers in 4WD's rturning a well sandbagged street into a tsunami zone.

And Yes I'm fully aware that the biggest problems facing Brisbane during a flood are it's size and the extreme and rapid nature of their floods.

hmnn...one ex gf will need her flippers (hard to do over her claws) - my old place at New Farm will be ok but the Merthyr Road shops will be under water

Most of mates should be ok

the brisbane city council flood maps I think are based on 74...The Billy Premier (who is actually smart and a good woman) said they are doing constant modelling and remodelling

Good luck, Mick.

And RIP to the poor buggers that the torrent got yesterday and overnight. Unbelieveable images from SEQ. No

I have been busy working around the old chief's house and hadn't seen any of the news until around lunch time today. FMD - Mother Nature unleashing all her fury. Shocked
