Re: Celebrity Death List MMXII / The Death Thread 2012
Yeah, last year and this, Jim seemed to be the one nobody wanted - like it's fine to nominate ancients like ZZG, or obnoxious Gen X wgaf's like Britney or the Beebster, but Jimmy was/is too young, too well-liked, and esp AFL followers are too involved. He's on the other side of that line where noms become just too ghoulish and too obvious. We have no qualms about nominating Charlie Sheen or Rod Stewart or Maggie T but with the likes of Jim Stynes the rubber hits the road again..

In this case, unlike Reba McEntire, the reports, sadly, appear correct:

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXII / The Death Thread 2012
Looks like he went suddenly. RIP.
"Jimmy Dundee said his father was hospitalized for a blood clot last week and was briefly in a rehabilitation facility before returning to his apartment."
"He was coming along good yesterday and then he started to have breathing problems. My wife was with him at the time, thank God, and called and said he can't breathe. We all got over there. All the grandkids were there. He didn't want to go slowly," the son said. "

According to the LA Times report they found the blood clot after a flight back from attending Muhammed Ali's 70th birthday party. The two remained inextricably linked even at the end. Would Ali have achieved what he did without Dundee? Impossible to know but I would imagine that even "The Greatest" feels a large part of his life has gone missing now.

An amazing lack of deaths of interest to this forum this year so far.

I reckon we had a very slow start last year too. The Reaper will lift his game as the year stretches out.

I have vague recollection of a show my folks liked to watch when I was a kid, called Run for Your Life which starred Ben Gazzara. He died last Friday of Pancreatic cancer.

I feel your pain. One of my former crushes, Bob Holness, died a couple of weeks back. Suffice to say I was watching Blockbusters on the Challenge channel tribute for quite some time.

Hmm. Very appropriate for this thread. Ran for 86 episodes in 1965-8 apparently although I can't remember it in the UK (but that doesn't mean it wasn't shown here). It sounds like The Fugitive with a terminal illness replacing Lt.Gerard. I think I remember him from his previous series Arrest and Trial in which he played a hard-bitten cop on the trail of the bad guys and Chuck Connors, of all people, played a defence lawyer trying to get them off. Connors gave up The Rifleman to do the series, it seems. Gazzara was an outstanding film actor of course, of the Peter Falk generation.

A Chapter Closes
Last serving member of Forces during WWI dies. Appropriately a woman since one of the greatest impacts of WWI which still persists today was in transforming women's lives and the role of women in society (at least Western society):

Whitney Houston Dead
Hers was one of the first collections of music videos I ever bought (in the days before YouTube). Not quite an Amy Winehouse moment but another victim of her own self-indulgence and inner demons. Sad.
