Strange that for the last couple of days Australia has officially been 'Prime Ministerless'.

Well no, it hasn't actually. Howard still has the comission given to him by the GG.

Officially he is still the PM, and will be until Rudd is sworn in.

gives the LLR and the LLRette time to do two things:

1 get down on their hands and knees to scrub the floors of Kirribilli house

2 invite the costellos around for tea

Pauline Hanson to stand in Beaudesert against Big Brother gatecrasher
Article from: AAP

February 27, 2009 12:00pm

FORMER One Nation leader Pauline Hanson says she'll contest the Gold Coast hinterland seat of Beaudesert in the March 21 Queensland state election.

Ms Hanson will hold a news conference on Monday morning at the Boonah Cultural Centre to formally announce her candidacy.

Her main opponent in Beaudesert is LNP candidate Aidan McLindon, who made headlines when he was charged and fined after storming the stage at the 2005 season finale of the Ten Network reality TV show Big Brother.

The Logan City councillor, who was 25 years old at the time, was trying to promote his rock bank, KillTV, and highlight Big Brother's breaching of the TV code of conduct.

Asked today if she will be standing for Beaudesert, Ms Hanson replied: "Yes. Yes."

However, Ms Hanson declined an interview.

"I'm not saying anything until Monday," she said.

Ms Hanson's former One Nation party polled strongly in Beaudesert during past elections, but her campaign faces a huge hurdle with both major parties ruling out giving her preferences.

At the height of its popularity, One Nation won 27.4 per cent of the primary vote in Beaudesert - just 5.5 per cent behind the Nationals' Kev Lingard who is retiring from the seat at this election.

Nationals Senator Joyce, campaigning for the LNP today, said the former One Nation leader, who later appeared as a contestant in TV's Dancing With the Stars, could not be taken seriously.

Senator Joyce rejected the idea that the LNP would rely on Ms Hanson for preferences.

"If Ms Hanson was fair dinkum, she would be consistent and constant in her political drive - even the other One Nation candidate is highly sceptical of her motives," Senator Joyce said.

"I would not accept preferences not so much for her beliefs, I would not accept the preferences because I doubt how genuine she is in her beliefs.

"She seems to have a random oscillation between TV shows and a political career when it suits her.

"What is expected in political office is that you take your philosophical views seriously and you can't really take them seriously if you're dancing with the stars," Senator Joyce said.

Confirming this week that Labor would not preference Ms Hanson, Premier Anna Bligh said most Queenslanders would be "groaning" at the news of the former federal MP contesting the poll.

Ms Bligh said Ms Hanson and One Nation had damaged Australia's reputation on the international stage by her comments on immigration.

The question of preferencing Ms Hanson and her former party has hamstrung the conservative parties in past elections, but Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg ruled it out immediately this week.

The Greens and Labor are also standing in the seat.

I might be desperate but I still have some standards.

I'm hoping she will split the right-wing vote & combined with optional preferencing, the goods guys can score a surprise victory.
