I spent some time at the State Library last week looking through Sydney Morning Heralds from 1967. Although I wasn't actually looking for cricket stories I stumbled across this photo of Bitmead.

Paul Adams' inspiration?

Though Adams had to reimage him in his own looking glass.

Bitmead only played for two seasons taking 53 wickets @ 22.30. He toured New Zealand with the Australian "B" team in 1966/67.

There is an Flaming Bails connection in that his coach was the forummer known as Horace. I don't know why he didn't play more although there is a rumour that he once tried to bowl a googly & disappeared up his own arse. Perhaps Horace can tell us the true story.

Froggy "Alan" Thomson - anyone remember him?

Devastating on his day, coming off the wrong foot and whirling like an alien windmill.

Some remember him by the impudent nick "Alan", but he was really always froggy.

That must make Horace a Gallipoli vet. ~ I wondered why he never talked of that subject.

Blender "Paul" Adams - anyone remember him?

Frogs trapped in blenders all over the world used to watch him and wince.

He must have had serious back problems.

Good thing he didn't play 100 tests.

Back around 1970, Froggy Thomson impersonations were all the go at net sessions.

Well they were in WideWallyWorld.
